Q: Symptom Questions

Hi!  I am 35 years old and I think I might have RA.  First of all my mother has it and was diagnosed with it during her early 30s.  Secondly I developed symptoms about a month ago.  I have stiff joints but suffer mostly from pain in my hands, wrists, knees and ankles.  I feel the pain mostly on my right side (I am right handed).  I had some tests performed last week by my GP and should know the results within a week.  In the meantime, I am just wondering, has anyone else experienced symptoms similar to mine?

Absolutely.   Even tho' RA is supposedly symmetrical, for me it has up until recently (diagnosed in 2004) mostly in my right hand/wrist and right ankle.  Not to mention general stiffness in some other areas.  Now (even with treatment) I am starting to experience more pain in the left hand & wrist.

It's good that you're being proactive. The sooner you are diagnosed and get to a rheumatologist, the better off you will be!  check out information for the newly diagnosed (even if you aren't yet - it might help you prepare for your next dr. appt.)

  Best wishes -

Thank you for your response!  Even though I dont show any swelling, I am convinced I have it.  The waiting for the results is killing me.

Hi Angie, I had a joint in my hand that was swollen and angry. I went to my GP who did a blood test for RA. It came back positive x2. He then sent me to a Rheumatologist. I am now taking 2 meds which have helped, but not the way he would have liked. I will be starting Enbrel next week. Anyway, yes I have stiff joints and my hands and forearms ache from time to time. I haven't had pain in my knees or ankles so far. Good luck

Thank you so much for your response!  I am really very anxious over this.  It is nice to have a network of support available online.

My RA started in my hands then my shoulders. My daughter was also diagnoised and her hands and wrist have been the most affected joints. Try a couple aleve or the generic naproxen and see if that helps with the pain you are feeling now. If you have a sensitive stomach be careful. Try not to worry. There are many great options for treatment now that your Mom (or even my age) didn't have available. Many natural options are very effective as well. Reply
