Thursday, August 25, 2011 DDL JR asks

Q: Hi. I'm getting 1000mg of Remicade IV for RA every 5 weeks. Had a random wellness check at work today found out my cholesterol is 212 hdls 57 and ldls 111 and triglycerides 217.

I've never had that history before, but my dad and his brother and father all had major heart disease/COPD with coronary artery involvement - two are dead and my father is barely here ejection fraction under 30 after the last MI. I'm 48. Is remicade bad news?

given your family history,I think it's very difficult to link your results with Remicade. Furthermore, it's impossible to do so on the Internet, especially since neither I nor any of the other people who answer questions on the side are doctors, but answer based on no experience in whatever knowledge you manage to pick up along the way. I highly recommend that you make an appointment to see your PCP, ask to redo the test and it's probably not about ideas to a physical. Some of the factors to consider involve the results at your last physical, how long you've been taking Remicade, more about your family history, etc. You may also want to contact your rheumatologist to seek their opinion.

Good luck! Please keep us posted on how things go?
