Q: medicinal information

i have been recently diagnosed RA.Doctor gave me hydroxychloroquine and deflazacort.i want to know that has he gave me good treatment.some are saying that hydroxychloroquine has dangerous side effect on eyes and is not much effective.they say i should take predinesolone.please guide me.i am 40 year old woman.

Hi Shahida,

Many of the RA drugs have serious side effects, you need to decide between you and doctor if the risk outwieghs the benefits. The Prednisone you mention has some of the worst side effects, bone loss, wieght gain, diabetes, sleep apnea, etc. Remember that side effects are POSSIBLE, not written in stone! You should have a candid discussion with your doctor over your fears and come to a mutual agreement on the meds.
