Hello, and welcome to our community.
I do not take Humira, but many others on this site do. Lene Andersen uses Humira and it has worked very well for her. She is one of the experts on this site.
I know that some people get a redness at the injection site, and I know that it takes a while for most people to feel better. It doesn't work instantly, or that is what most people here say.
It is a little slow on the site on the weekends, but someone who uses Humira or has used Humira in the past should stop by and answer your question with accounts of their experience with Humira.
It might help them answer your question better if you described what you are feeling. Are you feeling unwell, do you have a headache, etc?
Thanks for asking your question. I'm sure you will get some help from the veteran RAers here on this site.
On the other hand, if you are really feeling unwell, have a severe rash, or you are having trouble breathing, you need to call your physician. Another excellent source of drug information is your pharmacist.
Take Care,
V
Hi - I haven't taken Humira, but I had a couple infusions of remicade, and then have been on Enbrel for almost 6 years (having an infection problem now, however, and am off for the time being).
I have had times of feeling odd, freaked out, deja vue and whatever. The first shot I gave myself, I wasn't worried beforehand, but kind of freaked out afterward and had a panic attack. thougth I'd never take it again, but 3 days later, I couldn't wait. The immune system is a pretty deep thing, and if you think of it as the biological equivalent of your ego (distinguishing self from non-self), it can affect us in strange ways when something affects it. I have been mostly happy with Enbrel because I can control how often I take it (and slow down if I feel like I'm coming down with something) without having to reschedule with a doctor's office, like with Remicade (which was also too strong for me). I had a few times when I just kind of went with how I was feeling (almost like psychoanalyzing myself) and trying to sort out what these feelings reminded me of in my past life, thinking maybe I had 'unfinished business' and that the stress from those times maybe contributed to my getting RA - though there is a strong genetic link in my family. That was the way I dealt with it. It may not be everyone's way. It can be physical too. I would just keep track of it and if something really bothers you about it, talk with others here, and with your doctor. I have often heard people on Methotrexate say they feel "off-color" for a day after they get the MTX, but then feel better the rest of the week. It's very individual, and only you can decide if it works for you... good luck! But no, it's probably NOT "all in your head", but it IS "in your mind/body".
Hi Tiffany! I am 44 years old and have had RA for almost 8 years now. I take Methotrexate and Humira. I've been on methotrexate almost the complete time and Humira for 3 years. I had taken Embril for a year till it stopped working for me. I then went to Humira which I have to take every week as the recommended q2 week wasn't effective. I don't recall feeling weird when I first started Humira. If anything I felt more pain relief and less fatigue the longer I was on it. Some people can have an allegy to both embril or humira so just watch for redness and swelling at the injection site. Good Luck! I hope it helps you in the long run!
sorry I'm late transferring this, but thought I'd jump in on the discussion.
Humira usually takes a couple of months to really kick in, so I assume you're talking about side effects? Humira, like the other Biologics, messes with your sinuses, so you may be feeling a bit woozy and have a fair bit of a mucus going on in your sinus cavity. I remember when I first started Enbrel being in the shower and I that I had under the warm water spray, leaned forward and all of a sudden my sinuses drained out my nose. It was a little disconcerting, but didn't last long. You may also have a bit of muscle pain, but that usually goes away after a couple of days. you may also have some gas and bloating. Check out my post on managing side effects for more information on how to keep things down to a dull roar and if you want to talk more about this, send me a message or if I haven't replied to your message within a few days, let me know by replying to this comment - we having some occasional problems with the message center.
