Hello, MO!
So great to hear from you, girl. Very happy to hear you are doing so much better. You have been thru a long, rough "patch", I know. About the prednisone weight...I, too am having the same issue. Now I am back to having metabolic syndrome because of the weight gain around my middle. I have been counting calories and have had some success, but it is going to be a slow process. Some days I just can't hold myself to 1200 calories. Ugh. My next plan is to get a pool. Not a big, expensive one. Just one that is about three feet deep. Both my docs say I need to exercise, but the only exercise they will let me do is in the pool. What do you thing about that idea?
Hugs,
V
I have a friend who lives in Alberta, Canada, and she rides a bike. I live in the country, so no good place to ride a bike, and my hips/ankles/knees don't like it! We bought our pool this past weekend. Will have it up by the three day weekend for Memorial Day. A friend of mine told me just walking around the pool is good exercise and she uses it to lose weight. I bought myself some goggles. LOL 58 year old woman in goggles. Ai Yi Yi. Hang in there, MO. Wishing you the best, as always.

Hey...I too had the prednisone weight gain (still do). I am also just recovering from right knee replacement (fifth week post op). I will say this - I have been off my dearest friend Actemra for the third month (due to the surgery) and can't wait for it to start next week! I was told I could take the prednisone post op, but I dont want to because I dont want any more weight gain and I can't afford to be mean to my 86YO mother, who is currently taking care of me...when I was on it before I bitched at the people at work, keeping them in line and all! LOL
Anyway, during post-op rehab I purchased a little bike where you can sit in the chair and bicycle away. Have been doing it for five minutes, soon will be increasing it up....and then continuing on with my rehab PT. This bike can be used on the arms and for the legs/knees. It is currently at super easy, but you can twist the knob and it becomes harder to "ride". This exercise might be helpful to you if you dont go to the pool or (like me) can't afford to purchase the indoor heated pool of our dreams. The way it makes me feel helps urge me to do other exercises (with the therabands). I can't believe the way I feel....even while it hurts like heck due to the RA and the post op pain. It may help you out with the weight gain, I can feel my clothes getting looser.
The cost? $24.99 at WalMarts.
Hope it works - for you and me. Good luck.

I went to a local health club and exercised in the warm water pool for a few months. It was ok, but I am not good at going to the gym. I have always been a runner and obviously can't now, I am sure that's the biggest reason why I can't get rid of this weight. I tried it about a montha go and my right hip hurt so bad I could hardly walk! Damn prednisone! And menopause! Ugh! I need to lift weights again, I lost 20 pounds doing that, but that's not an easy thing for us either. I never had a weight problem until about 5 yrs ago...and I eat well...my husbnad calls me a rabbit! 1200 calories is pretty low, V. As far as your getting a pool, go for it if you'll use it. I live in wisconsin, so that's not a reasonable option with the cold weather. I just need to get up and moving more, but am feeling pretty good right now and don't want to roick the boat too much! Good Luck, V! Keep in touch! Mo
