Is it more difficult to treat deep, aching joint pain or the tender, swollen joints pain?

I rarely have the tender (to the touch), swollen joint pain, mine is usually the deeper joint and muscle pain.  Is it more difficult to treat the deep, aching pain as opposed to the tender, swollen joints?
