Q: Help!! my throat now.....

I want to know if this is RA related or not. First off I was told I had Angioedema from taking Plaquenil and had to stop that immediately. It started with my lips swelling then swelling down my troat and into my chest. Well Ive been off Plaquenil for weeks now, taking anti-inflammitorys.....and my throat is still swollen, like someone is choking me, I cant sleep because its hard to breath, speaking is getting difficult, I feel I need water contantly and a little horse, I also am getting really bad night sweats. My doc gave me Aterax, some antihistime thing and that did nothing, he had me try my inhailer and nothing, now Im on Prednisone and frankly NOTHING!!!!

Does any one have an idea???? I was thinking it might be thyroid related, like say thyroiditis.... Has any one had this happen???

Its making life difficult, please help!!!!

to be honest, I don't know enough about the side effects of Paquinil to tell you one way or another. However, after dealing with this disease for over 40 years, I know this: you know your body better than anyone, you know when something doesn't feel right and if you feel that this is more than side effects, keep going back to your doctor and ask to be tested for other possibilities. You may want to go to your primary care physician rather than you rheumatologist for this, as your rheumatologist is there to treat your RA and your family doctor is the contact point for everything else. Good luck!

I am so sorry for what you are going through, but this is the reality of RA and meds. What makes someone feel better can be an obstacle because we all react different. Hang in there now you know about Plaquenil and your reaction. Keep going and keep us posted I am curious because I am currently taking Plaquenil, Prednisone, Humira and somedays I even take Vicodin. Hope to hear from you!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, here's what I can tell you. I have been diagnosed for three years. I would suggest going to an ear, nose and throat doctor. The very same thing happened to me after about a year and a half after my diagnosis. I have never had problems with my throat before. I was diagnosed with GERD (acid reflux). I am taking aciphex for it and it has helped a great deal. I no longer have chronic problems with my throat. I also use sugar free cough drops to help sometimes when I do have a flare up. I can also suggest for you to cut out coffee, caffiene, alcohol and definitely do not smoke. I hope this helps!!!
