Q: How do deal with sinus infections when taking the Anti-Tif drugs?

After 4 months of remicade I stopped due to high blood pressure but mostly terrible sinus infections.  I have had two shots of the humira and I can feel it starting again, pressure above my ears, headaches, teeth hurt. I do all the prevenitive, netti pot, allergy pills, decongansts, and cortisone sprays and still this.

Does anyone else have this issue, I know if I stop and take a drug it will go away but as soon as I go back on them I will get them agian, this is so depressing, I just want to be able to have a good medical plan and be able to stick with it for once!!

Hello, Desparte,

We have a member here who had to delay Anti TNF's until she had sinus surgery.  Have you been to an ENT?  I have been injecting Humira for nine months. The first four months I felt as though I was always on the verge of a sinus infection.  I still have days when I can feel the pressure and have a bit of a headache.  I, too, use a neti pot every day and take Zyrtec. I try to remember to take my garlic capsules and drink tons of water.  All that seems so help. Still, it sounds as though you have done everything you can think of.  I hate to say it, but perhaps you should see an ENT...???  So sorry you are having this problem...one on top of the other, it seems.

Hugs,

V

HI V<

Yes I have been to an ent, I had this same reaction when I was on remicade and it got so bad I was crying from the terrible headaches, the ct scan showed almost clear sinues but evidence of some past infections and the dr said nasal cleaning, netti pot and some steroid andalergy meds. I do it all but didn't have any problem tell after the second shot of humira. It is also causing a lot of low back pain and down my leg so who knows. The RA doc says with my blood work it shows that I need more than just mtx and I am not sure what I will do, the side effects are worse for me than beofre I take it so we will ahve to see.

Thanks for taking the time to write to me.

I agree with all of the above. Also, have you tried vitamin C to help with the sinus infection? I use Emergen C (when I feel this coming on I use 3,000 units a day). This time of year is also a great time to drink nettle tea for cleaning out your immune system. May I also suggest changing out your furnace filter~ great collector of allergens.  But, as suggested above, a ENT specialist is someone you should consider. Kathy
