Q: Hygiene hypothesis and RA? Do you know someone or have you tried anything like it? Results?

There is some indication that parasites [hook and whip worms] may help in some auto-immune diseases. Most of the Google hits I get refer to Crohn's disease or MS, and a few others.

I am looking for information specific to Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Epidemiology references I have read [very few, but enough] lead me to believe that RA and similar diseases are much less prevalent in 3rd world countries, where more are infected with some form of parasite.    There are a few web sites selling several species of helminthic parasites, but I see no information that they are helpful with RA.

Unfortunately, I don't know. None of the people who answer questions in this area are doctors, but answer based on our personal experience and whatever knowledge we picked up and I don't remember ever seeing any reference to the role of parasites, if any, in RA.  It sounds as if you're already well versed in Google searches, so you probably know more about this topic than I do at this time.  I would recommend you discuss the topic with your rheumatologist as they may be more aware of any research particular to the use of parasites.
