I have severe RA and have been a stay at home, home-school mom so I haven't worked outside of the house much. I am unable to work and don't have enough work credits to get disability services. Any suggestions?

I'm Canadian, so I'll admit right up front to not being terribly familiar with the US system of Social Security as it pertains to disability. I've done some research in the past to answer other questions about SSD, but this is the first time I've seen a mention of work credits and I'm unsure about what that means. However, the resources I found may still be able to help you or perhaps give you more information.
The Social Security website offers a section that includes what they call "disability starter kits", which includes information and lists of what you need to help you through the process. As well, there is a website called Disability Secrets with answers to many common questions from people who want to apply for Social Security Disability benefits. It also offers links to advocates who can help you for free and a link where you can find help with a free disability case evaluation (click here and scroll down). Additional information about Social Security Disability can be found on the site's Social Security Disability blog.
The website looks genuine and appears to offer very good information, but I haven't verified its authenticity myself yet. You may therefore want to use it as a reference source and look into it further before you offer to much personal information. you may also find more information if you pop by your local Social Security office. SSD will also be the topic of an upcoming Beginner's Guide to RA.
Good luck!
I understand your situation. I too, stayed at home with my children when they were growing up. Now I am unable to work due to severe RA. I too, don't have enough credits. We are being punished for taking care of our families. Isn't that sad. There is nothing that can be done. I've been trying for several years now to find a solution. I can't even get medicaid so I can get to a doctor. I can't afford medical care or prescriptions or anything like that so I just have to watch my body fall apart and try and deal with the pain. Hope you can find some help.
I have ss disability. you have to have 40 credits9yrs of work) to qualify. but talk to attorney(free consultation) sometimes they can add the years that you stayed home to credits. i had enough credits so i didnt have that problem but they did ask all those questions abt staying at home with kids so i am sure there is something to it. also look into SSI, if you dont have the income in household you may qualify for that. SS.gov is official websight.yes there are a lot of info on the internet to get started. good luck, its a long process

I too have tried repeatedly to get SSD or SSI and haven't the credits to even file. I have Fibromyalgia and about 22 chronic things to go with it.
There is a place you can get ahold of, you may have seen Montel Williams do some ads for them. You can call1-888-4772-669 or go to visitwww.pparxorg hopefully you can get some help with your prescriptions. I did and they are a awesome blessing!!
