Q: Does anybody know of a good RA doctor in Western PA?

Does anybody know of a good RA doctor in Western PA?  I am currently on my 3rd doctor and I just can't seem to one that cares.  I had planned on trying Cleveland Clinic, but they don't take my insurance.  Even a doctor in Pittsburgh or Erie would be okay.

You must be in my neck of the woods - lol! I use the Cleveland Clinic but my second choice would have been the Arthritis Center at UPMC in Pittsburgh - they have a well developed rheumatology department and are rated number 11 in the country, not bad! If you are in northwestern PA it's pretty rural and doesn't attract a lot of specialists. Rheumatolgy is one specialty that is, I think, under populated, unlike say cardiology, so you are less likely to find a really good one out here in the boonies. Even if you go to a big teaching hospital, you still have to try to build a relationship with your rheumatologist. They're people and they come in all kinds. It's like dating sometimes. I just happen to think your odds of finding a good one with up to date skills and a good patient communication skill set would be better in a major arthritis center. Good luck!

I just looked it up online and I didn't realize it, but my before my current RA doctor my family doctor tried to send me to a different RA doctor.  When I looked up the Arthritis Center in Pittsburgh his name came up.  He refused to see me because he likes to see patients with mutiple issues or some such thing and I guess I just didn't qualify.  Are you in western Pa too?  My insurance isn't isn't accepted by Cleveland Clinic and they want 50% down.  I looked into financial aid, but according to their website you have to be a resident of Florida, Nevada, or Ohio (I think those were the three states).  I don't know if that is written in stone, but it is the first thing to qualify listed under financial aid.
