Hi Betty,

I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing these symptoms.  Not being a medical professional, I don't know the answer to your question.  RA is typically associated with joint pain and swelling, especially in the hands and feet.  Lupus is often associated with a rash that appears after sun exposure.  (My mother has lupus but she doesn't get the rash.)  Lupus can also have arthritis symptoms which appear like RA with the joint pain and swelling.

I would recommend that you find a good rheumatologist with whom you can develop and working relationship.  Getting a diagnosis might take some time as there may be other possibilities out there.  Sounds like your doctor is already on the way to helping to find a diagnosis.  I hope that you get your answer soon.

I have had RA for about 4 years. No rash, or headaches after sun exposure. I have heard that is a symptom of Lupus from what I have read about the disease.
