Has any one tried a physical therapist for RA? I've had bumps on my fingers for a few years now and the stiffness has gotten worse, so I finally decided to see the specialist. I started taking Methotraxate as of last Friday and hope that it helps.

I went to see a physical therapist for about four months to help with the pain and stiffness in my neck and to help me regain a lot of the physical strength and range of motion I had lost in my upper body as a result of RA.
I found working with a PT to be very helpful, and was lucky that I found one who took my insurance AND had experience working with individuals with RA and other chronic disorders that cause pain. Most of the work we did together involved relaxation using heating pads, massage, and he developed a home program for me of different exercises I could do to build muscle while protecting my joints and not putting strain on them.
I'm not sure what your specific needs are, but based on my experience, I would say that it was very helpful to work with a PT-just make sure you find a good one!
Take care,
Sara
I work in physical therapy and I have actually worked with some RA patients myself. My opinion is if your biggest complaint is in your fingers is to get an order for occupational therapy. OT specializes in hands, fingers and elbows. They could try parafin. It is awesome! Days my hands and fingers hurt I go back and dip my hands. It not only feels good, but it makes your hands soft!!
