Hello, Shelly.  Rheumatoid nodules are ususally not painful. I have read that as a "complication" they can become painful.  Sometimes a steriod shot will reduce the nodule and lessen the pain of rheumatoid nodules. I don't know if you have a rheumatoid nodule or not. I have nodules on several of my fingers, but they are not sore. Sometimes my joints swell and they are painful, but there is no nodule there. I would strongly suggest letting your doctor look at your hands.  He/she is really the only one qualified to diagnose the lump and treat it, if necessary.

Please let us know how you are doing.

to my knowledge, nodules are rarely painful unless they are on e.g., the sole of your foot. However, I admittedly don't know too much about the topic. We do have an excellent post about nodules that may give you more information, but you should definitely run this by your doctor.
