Q: Is there anything that helps with pain for Fibromyalgia and RA?

So I just got diagnosed with Fibromyaglia on top of my RA and have been in so much pain I am now bed ridden. My RA Dr doesn't want to do anything for my fibromyalgia pain until she gets on top of my RA pain but I am just getting worse and worse. I've tried taking Lortab and even tripled my dose but its does absolutley nothing since fibrmyalgia blocks opiod receptors in the brain. Are there any pain meds that work? I just want to be able to get out of bed!!! please help if you know anything!

Thanks!

Ask your doctor what he thinks of Lyrica for you. I have a friend who swears by it. My doctor also suggested it to me since fibro symptoms can accompany RA. (Very hard to sort them out since there is no test for Fibro - it is just a name for a collection of symptoms at this point.) I don't take the Lyrica, but you could learn a lot about it by searching it. Keep asking questions. Living with RA is a lot about learning. There is so much! to know. Hope you feel better soon, Kelly

lyrica is supposed to be the fibro miracle drug.  while it did nothing for me, it is absolutely worth a try as i've heard from a few people that it really works for them. neurontin is another that may help (once again it didn't help me) but be careful of the dosage.  a former doc i was going to pumped my dose up to 1500 milligrams every 4 hours and all that did was muddle my brain and make me walk around in a fog.  good luck!

I know everyone is different but Lyrica did nothing for me but make me blow up like I was on a steroid.  I too have RA and Fibro and take Lortab and the only little extra help I get is taking amitriptyline 25mg X 2 at bedtime.  I don't know why but it helps me get some sleep and I still work full time and it's sometimes is almost unbearable.  I'm 41 years old and was diagnosed at 29 so I mostly just go with the pain take what I can for pain and listen to people pass judgement because they think for some reason we like to take pain meds.  I know for myself i have so much pain the med does'nt even hardly phase me.  Good Luck and God Bless cause after all he is the one who gets us through our days.

This is my first vist to this site.  I have RA and Fibro and I've been taking Lyrica for about 4 months. When I take 75 mg twice a day my pain is a lot better.

I tend to skip doses because it fogs my brain and affects my work although that is also getting better.

is it normal with RA to have every joint hurt at the same time???
