Q: Help!

Hi so i've been recently diagnosed with severe RA and fibro I am currently on 20mg  of prednisone( they had me up to 60)and 15mg of methotrexate. My question is my knees are still super swollen and hurt me so much more than they ever did before. I've been on the prednisone for a month now i've had steroid injections in my knees but they're just getting worse. My left knee is worse than my right knee and I have spasms in my muscles in both legs and feet but now I can barely move my left foot/ankle and cant move my big toe in that foot at all.My foot doesnt hurt too much mostly just weird tingly and I can feel it moving but my knee is just killing me there is no comfortable position and none of my pain meds work with the fibro. My rheumatologist sucks and doesnt listen (i'm calling her tomorrow since I just noticed my foot) but i'm in alot of pain and really freaked out! Has this happened to anyone? any suggestions? I live in a really small town (in Montana there pretty much all small tho) So the closest rheumatologist is over an hr away I tried to find a new one but one is retiring and the other one isn't taking any new patients till august. I dont know what to do any advice would be SO much appreciated!!!
Thanks!

Have you tried lyrica, sulfasalzine, naproxen, or Gebapentin?  I know lyrica make you gain weight but so does the prednisone--maybe sulfasalazine would help-naproxen is like Aleve's main ingredient and gebapentin is a nerve pain med-I have neuropathy as well as RA and fibromyalgia.  I am allergic to prednisone.  Maybe you are too.--Also tramadol helps with pain.  Good luck, i hope you feel better!

I've found since I've been diagnosed with RA that the physician sometimes has to juggle the medications to see which best suites your needs. However he/she should listen to your complaints because you are aware of your symptoms better than they are. Maybe it's time you think about seeing an Orthopedic Dr. that specializes in knee problems...or think about driving to a University Hospital complex where you can get more sophisticated care.
