This is exactly what is happening to me.  I am 72 years old male and was diagnosed with RA in August 2010.  My arms hurt so bad I could not dress myself or comb my hair.  The first thing I did was to get cortisone shots in both shoulders which did not even phase the pain.  My regular doctor sent me to a Rhematologist.  My blood test came back positive for RA.  The Rhematologist started me on Methotrexate.  I am now up to 8 tablets per week. I can now comb my hair and dress myself, but I still have moderate to severe shoulder, and muscle pain running down both arms.
