Hello, Scared Parent.

Prednisone is not a narcotic. It is a steroid that relieves inflammation and swelling.  Darvocet is an analgesic pain reliever that contains acetametaphine and propoxylene.  Darvocet has been removed form the market in the United States.

Prednisone is a strong medication, but is very useful to control pain and swelling when used appropriately. Hope this helps.
