Hello, Cathy, Welcome to Health Central!
Gout usually causes severe joint pain with a sudden onset. Sometimes there is redness, swelling and the joint is tender. Usually there is only one joint involved, but some people have more than one inflamed joint at a time. Gout is caused by excess uric acid that builds up in the body and deposits as crystals in and around a person's joints. The big toe is usually the first joint affected.
A callus usually develops on pressure points as a way for your skin to protect itself. If the pressure continues, the skin gets thicker. If untreated, the callus will usually become painful and the body begins to treat the callus as a foreign body.
I am not a doctor. I am just a patient myself, and I am only sharing what I have read and what I have been told. I would strongly suggest that you see a podiatrist for treatment. Proper fitting shoes are also essential.
Hope this helps. Pleaswe let us know how you are doing.
Best Wishes,
V
