Q: WHAT CAUSES PULMONARY NODULES? IS THIS COMMON IN RA?

I HAVE BEEN ON PLAQUENIL 200 MG TWICE A DAY AS WELL AS ARAVA 20 MG ONCE A DAY.  MY RHEUMATOLOGIST NOW WANTS TO START ME ON METHOTREXATE AND PLAQUENIL TWICE A DAY.  SHE TELLS ME I NEED TO CLEAR THIS WITH MY PULMONOLOGIST FIRST.  I HAVE HAD 3 CT SCANS OF MY LUNGS  IN THREE YEARS WITH NO CHANGES IN PULMIONARY NODULES BUT I AM QUESTIONING WHERE THESE NODULES COME FROM AND IS THIS COMMON WITH RA PATIENTS.

I wouldn't say that this is common exactly, but unfortunately this is a complication of rheumatoid arthritis that many have experienced.  Sometimes these kind of problems can actually be created by the medications taken to treat RA, so I would definitely clear this with your Pulmonologist first.  I have included a health central link that talks about Rheumatoid lung disease, here it is:

I hope this helps!  Good luck and best wishes!
