I've heard that shark cartilage can be good for arthritis, but I've never tried it myself. In terms of Recovery, I've never heard of it, but I tend to employ a healthy dose of skepticism to any new supplements, etc.
I would recommend that you consult a naturopathic doctor for guidance on supplements and herbal meds - the good thing about you living in Toronto is that I can actually refer you to a local source. The Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine is located in Toronto and runs a clinic where you will be treated by students, supervised by licensed naturopathic doctors and the fees are very reasonable. If you have low income, you can also apply for assistance in paying for the apartments. for more information about this clinic and contact info, click here.
