Hello, and welcome to our community.  I have been taking Plaquenil for several months now and it has helped me tremendously. It usually doesn't do much of anything until a person has taken it for three months.  It has its maximum effect after six months, or so I have been told by my doctors. I felt relief after three months, and then it just got better from there. I am not a doctor or a healthcare professional, but I wouldn't think your flares have anything to do w/the Plaquenil, but you should call your doctor and/or pharmacist and ask this question. They would have the expert knowledge you need.  Best Wishes, V
