I'm certainly not an expert, but about eight months before my RA diagnosis, they sent me to a hematologist who wanted a bone marrow biopsy as well.  Apparently they wanted to rule out lymphoma at the time.  I had a high white cell count and very high CRP, for what that's worth.  I was initially pretty annoyed with them for making me go through that test.  It was expensive and a bit nerve-wracking.  In retrospect, it was probably good to have that ruled out.
