I have severe pain and swelling in my knees and some days can hardly walk what could this be?

I worked as a waitress until I had severe swelling and pain in my right knee, I had to quit working because the pain got so bad, now I have pain and swelling in my left knee also stiffness. The pain is worse in the morning and at nite and sometimes I havea sharp pain while walking or...
