The funny thing about docs is that they can rush you and have a non-personality and still be very right and very good at what they do.  They can also take their time with you and run countless labs and still be dead wrong.  I  don't see the harm in the wait and see approach here.  You could follow his orders and see how it goes.  Believe me, if it's RA you will know it.  I'm still awaiting my diagnosis.  It's a pain to deal with- but every year as the symptoms get more pronounced, I know I'm closer to a diagnosis.
