Side effectsof meds and constant pain
every medicine i take makes me so sick. I am in and out of the hospital with pneumonia or anything else my immune system can't fight. I feel like the rest of my life is full of pain and sickness. Is there any relief in sight?
Check into ways of trying build your immune system a bit. So many of the drugs given will weaken your system. That's what helps to slow the progression of RA. Not to much you can do. Take more precautions when going out in public, stay away from sick people, wash your hands more often and things like that so you won't catch anything.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. The best thing I can suggest is to keep talking to your rheumatologist about your concerns - do you have a good doctor? Unfortunately, I'm not a medical professional and can't really give you any advice on this. I do hope that you and your doctor find a way to treat your RA soon without serious side effects.
I would caution you about building your big immune system, though. Supplements such as echinacea and the like that stimulate the immune system can cause flares - in RA, the immune system attacks itself and the healthier the immune system is, the more it will attack itself. You may want to consult a naturopathic doctor who can help you build core health without aggravating your RA. You should be able to find one in the yellow pages or contact the nearest naturopathic college to ask for a list of registered and licensed naturopaths in your area.

Annette,
I am so sorry you are having to fight this battle. I started a new drug and ended up in the hosptital with pnuemonia a few days later. I know it is not any fun. I did finally realize that it was not the drugs fault, I was already fighting the infection. I know it is hard to take, but I started the drugs again and I am now doing a little better. Talk to you RA doc and try to find something that will help.
Take care,
Brad
