Q: FYI for those who take Humira and Methotrexate

Not sure if this has been posted or not...... but wanted to share this information for anyone who takes the Rx Humira. You can get the Humira shots for $5.00/month and also Methotrexate for $5.00/ month if you are on the Humira shots.  Abbot Industries is offering this to help patients who take this medication, regardless if they have insurance or not.  This is a great help and saves a lot of $$.  The only thing that I've experienced is that the medication must be through a local pharmacy (not through the mail - or at least my mail order pharmacy would not process it) and it must be prescribed for RA. One time my local pharmacy got the wrong package in for the Humira shots. It was packaged for psorasis instead of RA, even thought the Rx was the same, but because of the packaging, it would not be covered.  Thank God I had a pharmacist who was considerate and reordered my Rx so that I could get it through this program.  Anyway, you should be able to go to Humira.com to find out more information about this program.  I have subsribed to this website since I've been on the shots and I think that is how I was able to join the program, or at least how I got the information in the mail from them.  My Rhuematologist didn't even know about this program, he acted like it was the first time he heard it when I told him.  You may be like him, and I wanted to share this with you in case you were interested.  Or if you're thinking of trying Humira, talk to you doctor and see if it would help you, and if it does see if they still have the program available to sign up to receive it at the discounted rate.  Medications are high, and anything that will help us be able to purchase it, I like.

It is wonderful that there are programs which help in gaining access to our prescriptions.  Information, including needymeds.org and rxoutreach.com, is presented in the post Financial Assistance for your RA Medications.  I personally use rxoutreach.com to fill my generic medications so I can save prescription coverage for other brandname drugs.  I even found a program to help pay for my out-of-pocket costs for Rituxan infusions (post to be coming later this month).

So glad to hear that you have found a way to option Humira and methotrexate at such an affordable (practically free) price.

Thank you so much for your post. I can give you a link www.needymeds.org that can help you with ALL you're prescriptions, not just the Humira.

My internists nurse gave me the link a couple of years ago, because I was on a lot of medications, and at one point I didn't know if I would ever be able to afford the cost.

Let me tell you, this has been a life saver when I was in dire straights. I was waiting for my disability to go through, and if it weren't for www.needymeds.org I would have had to go without most of my meds.

Give it a shot too. If your accepted, you can get almost all of your medications for free, yep, free! It is a blessing.
