Are you increasing the dose yourself or is it prescribed by your rheumatologist?if you rheumatologists is prescribing it, you can trust that it is safe. However, it's never a good idea to increase a prescription medication on your own.

What DMARD are you on (DMARDs are disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs like methotrexate, Aravea, the biologics)? There are many choices for meds that suppress your RA and unless you have had severe adverse reactions to e.g., the Biologics, one of them should work for you. I'd suggest making an appointment with your rheumatologist as soon as possible to discuss your situation and treatment options. Be honest about how very bad you're feeling and don't be afraid to cry in front of your doctor - I find that sometimes, it can help bring home to seriousness of the situation to a doctor.

Maybe you need a combination of meds - I do the prednisone off and on. If you've suffered from RA for a while, you may have already tried many meds though. If you're somewhat new to all of this, I would suggest it to your dr. That is a fairly high dose of prednisone. Hope you get to feeling better very soon. --Amy

Prednisoe is not a good Drug to be on,although I do consider it a wonder Drug because it takes away alot of the pain, In actuality Prednisone can end up doing more harm than help. I would suggest talking to your Rheumy about Enbrel, that is another one of my wonder drugs and its not as hard on the body. That way maybe you can lower the dosage of prednisone down to 10mg or 5mg.

HI, IN RESPONSE TO YOUR QUESTION CONCERNING PREDNISONE. I AM NOT AN MD. HOWEVER MY HUSBAND IS. I AM A LUPUS PATIENT OF 40 YEARS PLUS, HOWEVER. 45mg. OF PREDNISONE IS A LARGE DOSAGE. I DO HOPE YOU ARE FOLLOWING YOUR RHEUMATOLOGISTS' ORDERS CONCERNING THIS MEDICATION. AS OTHERS HAVE STATED PREVIOUSLY, PREDNISONE IS NOT GENTLE ON YOUR BODY. IN FACT, SOME OF THE SIDE EFFECTS CAN BE DANGEROUS. PLEASE DO NOT LOWER YOUR DOSAGE WITHOUT THE HELP OF A DOCTOR OF MEDICINE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS FOR ANYONE, AND MUCH CAUTION SHOULD BE TAKEN. THERE ARE OTHER MEDICATIONS WITH FEWER SIDE EFFECTS THAT ARE ALSO HELPFUL . GIVE THOUGHT TO A PAIN CLINIC, WHERE YOU WOULD BE UNDER THE STRICT CARE OF A DOCTOR , IF YOUR PAIN IS THAT GREAT. Reply
