Does anyone have a problem with hair dye? When I dye my hair I get blisters on my scalp. Please let me know what brand of dyes you've had good luck with.
Hair dye has a lot of very harsh chemicals in it and in my experience, the DMARDs (disease modifying antirheumatic drugs like methotrexate and the Biologics) can make you more sensitive, so that may be what's going on. I'd suggest you speak to your hairdresser - what better person to advise you then an expert in hair? - and you may want to check out health food stores for a natural forms of hair coloring, which may be more gentle. Or you can stop dying your hair altogether - getting blisters is a fairly strong indication that your body can't handle it.
Thanks Lene. The only recommendation I've gotten is to use henna. Have you ever seen that stuff wet? It's green, lumpy and just gross. It looks like a nasty baby diaper. I did find a little secret this last time I dyed it. I had just had a bad flare and took 25 mg of prednizone and found that when I dyed my hair I didn't have blisters. I'm assuming it was the prednizone that helped. You're right though, I need to stop dying it altogether. I've tried to not dye it before and ended up caving in. Sometimes we are so vain. Thanks again.
I hear you on the vanity.
On the other hand, sometimes it's all about the attitude. I have a dear friend who, like her mother, started going grey in her 30s and very quickly. Her hair's now completely grey (she's only in her mid-40s), but she's never dyed it. She just rocks the look, wearing colours that work with it, funky hair accessories, etc. Own it and feel fabulous!
LOL! I hear ya girl. I was a blond not having much fun, went back to being a brunette and having a blast, who knows maybe I'll go grey next and see what happens. Thanks Lene! Have a great weekend.
