Q: are anti inflamatory and muscle relaxers the same thing

Hi Kirk,

 

Thank you for your question. Those NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) and muscle relaxers may seem similar, they are in fact two different types of medications. NSAIDs work by preventing inflammation due to a natural reaction in the body. When the body is injured in some way (cuts, bruises, infection), extra cells are shipped to that part of the body to begin repairing the injured tissue. This natural process leads to redness, swelling, and an increased temperature at that location. NSAIDs work by preventing too much buildup from occuring in one location, reducing the pain and swelling that occurs. You can find more information about NSAIDs by looking at this page. Muscle relaxants work on the central nervous system, preventing muscle spasms and relieving discomfort. I hope this answers your question.
