Hey everyone!  I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia two years when I develped flu-like symptoms (achiness and fatigue that wouldnt go away)  all my tests were normal.  I did see a rheumy because i was having some small nodules on my wrists by my palms (both) pop up during this time.  All labs were normal.    A few months ago started having pain at base of left thumb then a couple of weeks later the right thumb.  It became hard to open doors, jars, etc.  Fingers started swelling, kinda looked lumpy. Had swelling between knukles (the ones when you make a fist they pop up) and redness there also.  Went to family doc as rheumy here only sees RA and lupus.  Sed rate was elevated at 30.  Called rheumy and he was willing to see me,  He ordered CRP which was slightly elevated at 1.5.  He gave me a medrol dose pack which helped.  I have seen him a few times since then, he is not convinced it is RA.  Says the swelling just isnt bad enough!?!?!?!    Anti-CCP result was (1)  Sed rate and CRP have come down since he put me on Naproxen.  Hand x-ray was normal.  Had MRI two years ago and it was normal but showed some synovial cyts.  The swelling is still there and i still have pain every day.  along with fatigue.  My ankles hurt so bad especially in the morning.  My knuckles stay red.  My elbows kinda lock up sometimes  Im thinking about getting a second opinion, but what if they just say well, your ccp was neg so you dont have RA?!?!?  any suggestions?

I know how frustrating the journey for a diagnosis can be, but please don't give up.  With your other tests being elevated there is definitely something going on.  Were you tested for rheumatoid factor as well?  Recently doctors have been using the anti ccp test as a more diagnostic measurement fot RA, however there are other factors that go into the diagnosing process.  If I were inn your position I would definitely get another opinion, especially if it will ease your mind.  I spent almost three years telling doctors something was wrong before I finally got my diagnosis of RA.  Dont give up!  You owe it to yourself to find out what's going on!  Good luck and best wishes!
