Hi,
I was looking at your profile and some of the question/discussions you've participated in previously. Sounds like surgery is not new to you, but new knuckles are a different thing. I can understand hesitancy and nervousness regarding having part of your body replaced, especially something as delicate as a knuckle.
However, it could open up a world of new function and abilities perhaps. Make sure that you have a great surgeon. Ask lots of questions. Talk to your doctor more. Then when you are ready, follow the recommendations so that your procedure and recovery time go smoothly.
I haven't had joint replacement and am not near the point where I would need it done any time soon. Relatives of mine who had knee or hip replacements were thrilled with the outcomes.
Good luck.
Oh, also. Your kitty cat looks just like one of mine. Even down to the pose. :)
So great to hear that your hand is so much better!! Very encouraging!
Sounds exciting to begin school for a second career. I can see how you might be tempted to delay until after more surgery.
Would there be the possibility of having surgery and enough time to recover over the summer? You've got timing decisions to make, but what wonderful choices. :)
All three of my little kitties will lay on their backs with front paws curled close to the chest and back paws stretched out straight. I've never seen so many cats who like to lay flat on their backs.
I was out of work for six weeks for the surgery in September and I go to physical therapy once a week since I know the routine from my other surgeries. So I'm thinking that if I have to have wrist fusion on my right side, I would be out the same amount of time. Classes would start in May so I would have to have the surgery in late February, early March. I'm excited to finally purse a career in medicine, I just hope I make the right decision to either have the surgery or delay. Milsap loves lying on his back, especially in a sunny spot on the floor, until my dog Bruno comes up to harrass him!

Thank you for your response, for some reason my question would not post, so here it is. On Sept. 23rd I had joint replacement of the knuckles on my left hand and wrist fusion. My hand looks and feels 100% better, it hasn't felt this amazing since before I had RA. I am slated to go back to school for my second career of becoming a doctor in January, however, I am wondering whether I should defer my school start date until the summer and have my right hand fixed. I have pain in my right fingers, which I know would be remedied by joint replacement or if I should go ahead and start school and wait until I have my right hand fixed, which runs the risk of becoming worse the longer I wait.
Milsap is almost always in that pose, if not that he is upside down with his paws in the air!
