Saturday, February 12, 2011 Donna asks

Q: Hi I am 18 weeks pregnant and have costcondritis which is extremly painful. Doctor want to give me cortisone injections into the back muscle. is this safe for my unborn child?

I don't know the answer to your question. If I were you, I would get a second opinion and I would also talk to my pharmacist.

steroids are usually considered one of the safer drugs to take while pregnant and I know of women who have RA who got through their pregnancy because they got frequent injections of steroids. You should be okay, but make sure you discuss your concerns with your doctor - there are pros and cons with all treatments and you need to make sure that you have all the information before you make your decision..
