Q: Is my fatigue abnormal among people with RA?

It seems like people with RA who are fatigue are physically exhausted (not having the energy to move) and sleepy.  But I'm just physically exhausted but not sleepy. But I've never been one to just take a nap.  Do other people feel exhausted but not sleepy or am I a rare case?

I am not always sleepy either.  There are some days that I feel like my body just can't go on and must take it easy but not take nap.  There are other days while doing tasks that my legs will feel exhausted and they can no longer hold me up.  My rhuemy says that is what happens.  So it is normal.

Welcome to the club of walking zombiesCool I have a hard time just taking a nap ... yet staying awake doesn't work either ... I call the feeling ... ummm ... like having constant Jet Lag ... if you are new to RA ... you will get used to it ... if not .. maybe you might be alittle anemic ... I know I had a bought of that early on ... the doctors got that all sorted out .... but Yes .. feeling sleepy/fatigued is ALL part of this lovely disease!!Cry

Yes, fatigue is very much a part of the disease.  My rheumy says if you not fatigued then you don't have RA.  I too am fatigued but not sleepy.

Yes, sadly it's normal because living with constant pain is exhausting. I'm trying to find ways to improve my energy levels to take some regular exercise as my doc says this will help improve my pain management options & overall health.

To me the fatigue is the worst part of this disease. I would often take double the pain to be rid of the fatigue. No, you are not alone - there are times when I am so tired I feel like I should sleep for days, but then when I try I can't fall asleep. I just lay there and hurt... and think... and then get up.

Sometimes a nap will make you feel better though and what I do is try to time the medications that make me drowsy with times I want to sleep. This trick has helped me greatly.
