Q: Do RA affect major organs like the lungs or heart?

I woke up this morning and I'm finding it very difficult to breath. The muscles appear to be fine ( no stiffness or pain to touch or outside pain) and I don't have a cough or cold but it sure feels like I have been coughing my head off. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,

Yes RA can affect the lungs and the heart. Are you on a biologic?  I would suggest a call to the doctor tomorrow, Merlinscharm.  Difficulty breathing is a serious symptom. Please call the doc and let us know how you are doing.

Hugs,

V

I did go to the doctor.  They thought plurcey or some kind of a respitory illness but they don't know.  I'm just sore feeling sore.  I believe it was a diverticulitis bout.  I'm still not up to par yet and not eating much but at least I'm back to work.  I think my RA brings on these too and when it happens I just have to ride it out.

Yes it can. It is an autoimmune disease that means it is systemic and affects your entire body not like osteoarthritis thats only bones/joints. Like V said call your doctor..... There's some great info on the mayo clinics website... Please research and feel free to ask us all the questions you want, we support you and each other. Keep us posted. God Bless
