New rheumatoid arthritis drug shows promise

Rigel Pharmaceuticals is reporting that its new rheumatoid arthritis (RA) drug has met its goal in a new clinical trial. Patients who took the drug fostamatinib disodium (R788) during the trial had lower scores on two disease scales compared with patients who were given a placebo. Company officials say the next step for R788 is to find a partner to help develop an oral version of the medication, and then begin late-stage testing in early 2010. Read more »
