FDA lists drugs under safety review

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has begun posting a list of all new drugs under investigation for safety issues. The list, which will be updated quarterly, comes in response to a 2007 law requiring the FDA to publish any new safety warnings or potentially serious risks based on their review of adverse event reports. But FDA officials stress that a drug's appearance on the list does not mean that it has been found dangerous or that patients should stop taking it unless told to do so by their doctors. The current list contains adverse reports on 20 medications, including Dilantin, Cymbalta, Humira, OxyContin, Seroquel, and Tysabri.  Read full story >
