Glucosamine, chondroitin don't work against OA: study

New research suggests that the popular supplements glucosamine and chondroitin are no better than a placebo at preventing cartilage loss in the knees of people who suffer from osteoarthritis (OA). But the study did find that people with OA who take glucosamine alone may experience some benefits. In the study, investigators gave 357 patients with OA of the knee either glucosamine alone, chondroitin alone, a combination of the two supplements, Celebrex, or a placebo. They found that while none of the groups showed significant improvement, the group taking glucosamine had the least change in joint space width.  Read full story >
