FDA approves tapentadol for acute pain

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved tapentadol immediate-release tablets for the relief of moderate to severe acute pain in adults. The FDA's move was based on the drug's ability to significantly reduce acute pain in a number of clinical trials. These trials included more than 2,100 patients who were suffering from such conditions as hip and knee osteoarthritis, end-stage joint disease, low back pain, and pain related to bunionectomy procedures.
