FDA approves new drug for rheumatoid, psoriatic arthritis

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a new drug for people who suffer from arthritis related to immune-system disorders. The drug, called Simponi, is an injectable drug that is essentially a follow-up medication to Remicade. FDA regulators approved the drug for rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis, a painful, progressive form of spinal arthritis. Simponi is injected once a month under the skin, and it is intended to be used along with drugs to suppress the immune system.
