Drugmaker offers free medications to unemployed

Drugmaker Pfizer is making 70 of its most popular medications available at no cost to people who have lost their jobs and do not have health insurance. According to a company news release, the MAINTAIN program is designed for people who became unemployed on or after January 1st of this year, who were taking an eligible drug for three months or more when they lost their job, and who currently do not have prescription drug benefits. People who meet these three requirements--and their spouses and dependents--could receive their prescription drugs free for up to one year. Medications included in Pfizer's program include such popular drugs as Lipitor, Viagra, and Celebrex, as well as a number of antidepressants and heart medications.
