New drug Masitinib shows promise against RA

A new drug being developed to treat rheumatoid arthritis (RA) has show good results in a new small study. The drug, called Masitinib, is designed to stop the activity of mast cells, which are a part of the immune system believed to be involved in both the start and progression of RA. In a new study of 43 people, researchers found that the drug was effective at reducing joint inflammation in people with severe RA while causing only mild to moderate side effects. Scientists say the next step for the drug is placebo-controlled studies.
