Wal-Mart supports employer health insurance mandate

The Associated Press is reporting that the nation's largest private employer, Wal-Mart, has announced that it supports an employer health insurance mandate. In a letter to White House and congressional officials, Wal-Mart executives said they embraced President Barack Obama's call for requiring all large employers to offer health insurance to their workers. The letter was signed by the company executives and by Andrew L. Stern, president of the Service Employees International Union, which has more than a million members and counts more U.S. health workers than any other union. Experts say this move by the retail giant could both improve the company's image for worker treatment and help push President Obama's healthcare reform efforts.
