Scientists at work on safer acetaminophen

Louisiana scientists are working to create a safer form of the painkiller acetaminophen. Acetaminophen has become the source of growing concern about liver toxicity from accidental or intentional overdosing of the drug. But now researchers have recently discovered a new form of acetaminophen that has similar effectiveness to the original drug, but with a lower risk of liver toxicity. Scientists have had difficulty producing this new formula in quantities suitable for widespread use, but researchers in Louisiana say they have may have found a way to do so.
