Some RA, Crohn's drugs boost cancer risk in kids: study

Officials with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) say TNF blockers--drugs commonly used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn's disease, and other inflammatory conditions--must now carry a black box warning to alert parents and doctors about an increased risk of cancer in children and teens who take them. The FDA's move comes after an analysis of data on the drugs showed a higher risk of lymphoma and other cancer associated with the use of TNF blockers such as Enbrel, Humira, and Remicade in kids. The medications already carry a FDA warning labels for other potential safety issues, including fungal infections.
