FDA cracks down on ibuprofen gels

Officials with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have issued warnings to eight companies for illegally selling pain-relief gels that contain ibuprofen. Ibuprofen gels are often touted as a safer alternative to oral ibuprofen, saying they do not carry side effects like stomach ulcers. But in a statement released last week, the FDA said these companies do not have the agency's permission to sell their products, which mix ibuprofen with other ingredients.
