    Collagen deficiency linked to OA

    Duke University scientists working with mice have discovered that a deficiency in a certain of collagen appears to cause osteoarthritis (OA) and degenerative disc disease. In the study, researchers deactivated the mice's Type IX collagen gene prematurely, which caused the animals to develop both joint diseases. The scientists say their discovery may lead to better treatments and diagnoses of both conditions.  Read full story >
