New RA drug stalls in mid-stage trials

A new drug called atacicept that is being developed to treat rheumatoid arthritis (RA) has failed to meet its goals in mid-stage clinical trials, its maker reports. Officials at ZymoGenetics say the drug failed to meet its intended goal of reduction in disease activity in patients in the studies. The drug is still being developed for the treatment of lupus and multiple sclerosis, but its future as a RA treatment is currently uncertain.
