Osteoporosis drug may slow cartilage loss

The osteoporosis drug Forteo may help slow cartilage loss--a benefit that experts say could help osteoarthritis patients as well. In an animal study, scientists found that injured mice who were given the medication had 27 to 35 percent more joint cartilage than mice given a saline solution. The study also suggested that Forteo may not only help prevent cartilage loss, it may help rebuild it.
