FDA panel backs abuse-resistant Oxycontin

A panel of experts that advises the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recommended approval for a new abuse-resistant form of the painkiller OxyContin. The experts voted 14-4 in favor of the new drug, which has a plastic-like coating that makes it harder to crush and inject or snort. The FDA is not required to follow the recommendations of its expert panels, but it usually does.  Read full story >
